Carter McInnis, Mountaintop’s new pastor, and his wife, Emily, were married in 2001. They have four sons: Morgan, Tanner, Walker and Brooks.
Carter was born in upstate South Carolina and bounced around from there to Albertville, Alabama before his family settled in Williamston, SC. He grew up in and came to Christ at Calvary Baptist Church before moving to Georgia for college.
Carter received his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Georgia with a focus in Broadcast News in 2000, his Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta in 2003, and his Doctorate of Ministry in Church Leadership Excellence at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. in 2016. He was ordained as an Elder in the North Georgia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church in 2007.
Carter worked in youth ministry for a number of years as an Intern at his home church, Calvary Baptist, in Williamston, SC and Noah’s Ark Beach Ministry in Panama City Beach, FL. He served as Pastor of Rutledge United Methodist Church and Pennington United Methodist Church in Morgan County, GA, and as Associate Pastor at First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville, GA. In 2005, Carter became the Founding and Lead Pastor of The United Methodist Church of the Way, later merging to form Harmony Grove United Methodist Church of the Way in 2015, and re-launching as Barrow Community Church in 2017.
Outside the church, Carter has served in community organizations committed to students and families in need. Carter enjoys running, reading, music, woodwork, good coffee, spending time with his wife and playing with his boys, and sports, especially college football.
Carter loves Jesus and people. He has a passion to reach people that are far from God with the love of Jesus and to help Christians become deeply devoted disciples of Christ. He wants to change the way people think about church and believes the local church is the hope of the world.
Carter and Emily are excited to be a part of the Mountaintop Church family and to be FOR|BHM.
