Who We Are

We Believe God Is For You

In fact, we believe God loves you and has an incredible plan for your life. That’s why we’re for you and for Birmingham. We want everyone to experience the life God wants for them through a real, authentic relationship with Him. At Mountaintop our vision is to Invite and Equip people to Follow Jesus.

About

Life is complicated, and we all have mountains in front of us and divisions that isolate us. So, we invite you to follow Jesus. He’ll equip you with all you need to meet life’s challenges. So we can thrive in life and find our purpose together in Christ.

Our Pastor

Dr. Carter McInnis, Lead Pastor

I have never gotten over the grace of Jesus Christ! I have a passion for inviting people that are far from God into the love and grace of Jesus and equipping Christians to become deeply devoted followers of Jesus. I believe the local church is God’s plan to reach the world, and I have a heart to make church relevant to people, no matter their background.

I also love being around people. My calling is to see people connect with God. Emily, my wife, and I were married in 2001. She has my heart, and I love doing life with her. We have four boys, Morgan, Tanner, Walker, and Brooks. We are a football family. I grew up playing sports, the boys all play football (and other sports), my brother is a coach, and we are huge college football fans.

It’s what we do, along with any and all Marvel movies and shows!
I was raised by Christian parents in the Southern Baptist Church in upstate South Carolina. Later, I was involved in several non-denominational ministries in college and then served 19 years as a United Methodist pastor before coming to Mountaintop.

Simply, we believe God called us to Mountaintop Church and Birmingham. I’m so blessed to work with an amazing team. This church and this Magic City are home.

What We Value

For One

Reach Out

We believe ONE matters. ONE soul saved, ONE sinner redeemed, ONE life changed.  Because we were all the ONE once (Luke 15:7).  We believe we should all have ONE person we are praying for, investing in and inviting into a relationship with Jesus.

For Each Other

Seek Unity in Christ

We aim to make a large Kingdom impact, but we strive for unity with Christians across our city and the world (Eph. 4:5-6). We want to help Jesus’ prayer come true that all believers would be one (John 17:21).  We will fight for each other, love each other, and forgive each other because we are brothers and sisters in Christ.

Hospitality

Make Room

Everyone is welcome. We will go to ‘all possible means’ to welcome people (1 Cor. 9:22).  We are a place where everyone can come home, just as they are (Luke 15:20).  We aim to create space for people from all walks of life.

Excellence

Bring Our Best

Whatever our hands find to do, we should do it with all our might (Eccl 9:10). Excellence matters because the mission matters, people matter and we are serving God (Eph. 6:7). Simply, God deserves our very best.

Generosity

Give Well

We serve a generous Father. We want to exhibit His generosity in how we handle our resources FOR Birmingham and FOR the world (Acts 20:35). We believe our resources, talent and time are entrusted to us to give back for God’s purposes.

Grace & Truth

Lead With Love

We will preach the truth of Scripture but never with a spirit of hostility (John 1:14). We speak grace over our community because Jesus speaks grace over us.  We teach the truth because we believe the truth sets us free (John 8:32).

    Loves Radically

The self-sacrificing love of Jesus transforms our lives to display the fruit of the Spirit and actively seeks ways to love God and our neighbors.

    Worships Passionately

A life of personal worship inspires us to glorify God in all we do as we participate in corporate worship and praise of our worthy God.

    Engages Scripture

A disciple pursues Biblical holiness through personal Bible study and small groups to seek a lifestyle surrendered to the authority of Scripture.

   Prays Fervently

An active and ongoing prayer life is vital to an intimate relationship with God.

    Serves Joyfully

We have all been uniquely created and find our purpose in God’s Kingdom by using our gifts inside the church and by serving in the community.

    Gives Generously

Tithing (10%) to the local church is a target for practicing financial generosity, moves us toward greater charity, and flows from God’s generosity toward us.

  Makes Disciples

As transformed people of God, we invite people into a relationship to follow Jesus and equip believers to follow Him more deeply through personal relationships.
