Matthew 8:23-27. Navigating Life’s Storms

Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

Do you need help navigating life’s storms? The truth is we all know what it’s like to be stuck in a stormy season of life. Everyone is either coming out of a storm, currently in a storm, or heading into a storm. This is life. Following Jesus doesn’t mean we will experience a storm free life- it simply means that we will not be alone if we’re in the boat with Jesus. The question is: Do we have enough faith to trust Jesus even when the storm is raging? Or do we need him to solve our problems, do we need to see a miracle before we put our hope in Him? When Jesus calms the storms in our life it is evidence that He has the power to bring peace. That storm on the Sea of Galilee has less to do with our personal storms and more to do with the person of Jesus. The true miracle is that in Jesus, God is with us. He promises to be in the boat with us as we are navigating life’s storms.
